Add international flair to your wardrobe this summer with Bollywood-inspired pieces. Introduce new jewelry to your outfits, such as big, colorful stone jewelry and clinking bangles. Color and design are two fundamental attributes of Indian jewelry. Feel the energy and excitement of Bollywood as you don several of these India-inspired pieces.

Bangles. Traditionally a staple of Indian jewelry, Bangles are generally worn in pairs and are preferable in high quality metals. The noise made by bangles clinking against each other has often been talked of in romantic songs and movies. Adorn your arms with a variety of these bangles and spend the night conducting your own symphony! Try Anna Beck Set of Gold Plated Bangles and Jennifer Zeuner Multicolored Gold Filled Bangles for a delightful touch.

Cuffs. Set in semi-precious stones and adorned with intricate designs, cuffs can be a perfect addition to any outfit. Wooden cuffs are especially natural looking and can be reminiscent of Bollywood films when set in bright colors. Slip the Isharya Turquoise Nizam Cuff and Isharya Nizam Wood Cuff on your wrists for a delicate look.

Outspoken necklaces. Big. Bold. Outspoken. Timidness will not be on your agenda with Bollywood-inspired necklaces. The bigger, the better. Try finding a piece with large stones or complicated designs. Gold is preferrable but silver will also do. Take a look at the Kenneth Jay Lane Emerald Royal Necklace and the Lisa Stewart Leaf Pendant with Mother of Pearl and get ready to move to the energy of Indian song.

Large earrings. Ornate earrings are perfect for the Bollywood theme. Try decorated drop earrings, such as Wendy Mink Tabitha Earrings or Wendy Mink Peacock Earrings.

Oversized rings. No Bollywood ensemble is complete without large, attention-grabbing rings. Make your fingers sparkle as much as your smile. Slip the Pade Vavra Sapphire Stalactite Ring and the Melinda Maria Pavé Marquis Ring onto your fingers. The grace of your hands moving to the music will be more captivating then ever before once you are decked out in Bollywood-inpsired bangles and rings.

Bracelets of Summer
Posted July 1st, 2008

Summer is the perfect time to experiment with new styles. From attending summer concerts to going to the beach, we are in constant motion during the warm summer months. What better way to enjoy summer than by spicing up our fashion sense?

Beach Jewelry

As summer draws on, our only thoughts are of cool breezes and sunny beaches. Armed with our favorite swimsuits and cute beach wraps, we are in dire need of complementary, beach-worthy jewelry. Bold bracelets and thick bangles are the way to go. These come in playful colors and wonderful choices, from chunky to light. Not only will they go nicely with our bright bikinis, but they will also be sand and shore resilient, so that we don’t have to worry about ruining our gold bracelets and silver cuffs. The Starfish Bracelet by Ettika is a fun, quirky piece for every day beach use. Yochi Design Large Lucite Bangles are a vivid summery display, perfect for every beach from Malibu to Waikiki! [See bracelets 1 and 2.]

Riviera Bash

When the sun sets and the evening cool settles in, it’s time to let down our hair and put on our party dresses. Whether going to a salsa club or a fiesta in Cabo, let out your wild side with animal themed bracelets. They can be worn with a bright splash of color – as if you needed an excuse to don cute party dresses in tropical hues. Kenneth Jay Lane’s Monkey Bracelets are an eccentric edition to any party dress. Meanwhile, Kenneth Jay Lane Snake Bangle will prove you’re not just out to monkey around. You’ll be hissing and dancing all night long! [See bracelets 3 and 4.]

Picnic in the Park

Leafy shade and checkered blankets beckon. Invite your closest friends to a summer picnic. Bring your blanket, basket, and pretty floral bangles. Even though spring blossoms are long gone, there is no reason not to bring some flora of your own. Leila Floral Bangles are absolutely beautiful and come in a variety of color. As tempting as it is to reuse your favorite piece, this is the perfect opportunity to try something new. [See bracelet 5.]

In Focus: The Price of Gold
Posted June 30th, 2008

The price of gold has been rising in the past year, making our favorite jewelry staple less affordable. The Commonwealth Bank has just anticipated that the price of gold will continue to fluctuate until September. With the US dollar in the state that it is and the price of gold rising, it’s time to find alternatives, in order to protect our pocketbooks and our fashion sense.

Ettika offers a multitude of casual and fun designs, from Hamsa necklaces to peace sign rosaries.

For bangle lovers, Blu’s Neon Bangle Set is an extraordinary display of eye-catching, technicolor style. These bangles are the perfect summer accessory and can be paired with a cute summery dress or used to dress down evening attire.

Another elegant substitute for gold is silver. Christie Martin’s Silver Graffiti Ring combines the best of both worlds: the elegance of silver with the youthfulness of graffiti type. This ring can also be personalized.

With so many great alternatives to gold available, it’s hard to understand why it takes the crisis of rising prices in order for us to explore unusual jewelry!

This Just In: Jessica Kagan Cushman Bangles
Posted June 19th, 2008

cushman-bangles.jpg

We’ve just received a new assortment of Jessica Kagan Cushman’s fun bangle bracelets. Her trademark bangles are adorned with snippets of quotes extracted from pop culture to inspirational and funny sentiments. The bangles are handmade with antique scrimshaw, a technique her father Vladimir Kagan, a furniture designer, taught her. On her website she describes the words scripted in ink on the outside as falling “somewhere between a tattoo and a bumper sticker”.

Jessica draws on pop culture to bring back memories of everything we’ve experienced from childhood, with her Supecalifragilisticexpialidocious bangles, to the movie classic The Wizard of Oz, when she printed, “Toto, I’ve a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore,” on the outside of this set. All of the sayings are funny and witty, but the great catches are the ones that are sassy and have that flair of drama. “You’re not the boss of me,” isn’t what someone expects to read when they glance down at your wrist, and it will send the message that’s sometimes ignored, that only you are the boss of yourself. “You can agree with me or you can be wrong,” on this set might make the person who reads it pause and wonder if they are right after all.

The quotes aren’t the only words or symbols printed on the bangles. On the inside of each bangle, Jessica Kagan Cushman’s name is printed in capitalized letters, and on the outside, beside each quote, there’s a crown. The crowns are proof that these are fit for someone as fabulous as you, and with quotes like these, there’s something for everyone. The careful craftsmanship and the thought-provoking words are signs of a product that’s well-made and deserving to be a part of your jewelry collection. You cannot go wrong with any one of these bangles, and it’s truly up to you to decide how you wear these. That part of having a few Jessica Kagan Cushman bangles is as individualized as the ones you select. You can wear multiple ones at a time, mixing sassy catechisms and funny quotes, putting together the unexpected. It’s even possible to mix these bangles with some silver, gold or beaded jewelry for a terrific first impression.

Each of these Jessica Kagan Cushman bangles are available with either white writing on a black scrimshaw background or black writing on white scrimshaw. What you wear on your wrists will be unexpected and thrilling for your friends and family as long as you have a handful of Jessica Kagan Cushman bangles because her designs make getting dressed so much fun.
